SRC deputy chairman doesn’t predict major increase in prices in Armenia from January 2018

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Vakhtang Mirumyan, deputy chairman of the State Revenue Committee, says there is no need to expect significant increase in prices in Armenia starting from January 2018, reports Armenpress.

Commenting on the question what prices increases are expected in Armenia starting from January, 2018 in connection with the EAEU common customs duties entering into force, Vakhtang Mirumyan said: “For Armenia the deadline of common tariff exemption of the Eurasian Economic Union gradually expires for each type of product by 2020. In general, it’s difficult to say whether increase in prices is expected or not”, he said.

According to Mirumyan, the imports from the EAEU member states are not taxed by customs fees, in other words, if Armenia replaces the import from third countries by the imports from the EAEU states, it means that the increase in customs fee doesn’t affect that product. “Secondly, we have free trade agreements with other our partner countries. If the import of that product is replaced by imports from one of the parties of the agreement, it will turn out that no impact can be on the customs fees and prices”, he noted.

He stated that the sum of all the above-mentioned components enables the Armenian government to suppose that there is no need to expect significant increase in prices in Armenia from January, 2018.

Commenting on the existing increase in prices, the SRC deputy chairman said they are not conditioned by customs fees.
