Latest Azeri aggression was third large-scale action since November 9 statement - Deputy Chief
of General Staff

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. The recent Azerbaijani aggression was the third large-scale attack since the November 9 trilateral statement against inhabited regions of Armenia, Major-General Arakel Martikyan, the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces told foreign ambassadors during a meeting in Vardenis.

The major-general said that overnight September 13 Azerbaijan launched very aggressive and large-scale offensives from three directions. The attacks began with ground force offensives with missile-artillery and UAV support.

“Since the signing of the 2020, November 9 trilateral statement and other documents this was already the third such large-scale action aimed mostly against our settlements. The Azerbaijani military-political leadership has numerously falsely claimed that they launched the latest attack to thwart some kind of imaginary actions of the Armenian military. As the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces I am officially declaring that the Armenian military hadn’t planned and taken any action and there can’t be such thing because it contradicts the orders of our military-political leadership,” the major-general said.

The major-general said that the Azerbaijani military-political leaders are also falsely claiming that Armenia is entirely their historic territory and are even falsely and deliberately calling this region “Basargechar”.

“The attacks in the three directions were mostly aimed against densely populated regions with a simple goal – the direction of May 12, 2021 is right next to the settlements, with the purpose of forcing the population of the border regions to abandon their lands. Already today it is very difficult for farmers to cultivate their lands or keep livestock in border regions,” Major-General Martikyan said.
