Armenian PM holds meeting with EU Ambassador

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received on October 24 Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, the PM’s Office told Armenpress.

Welcoming the EU Ambassador, Pashinyan stated: “At this important stage of reforms the cooperation with the European Union is very important for Armenia. After the Revolution the EU is one of the most important partners of our democratic agenda, and we view your appointment in the context of further intensifying the Armenia-EU partnership. We consider the political dialogue with the EU effective and are ready to work actively and jointly aimed at making our partnership more effective”.

Talking about Armenia’s democratic reform agenda, the PM touched upon the judicial sector, the electoral system, the anti-corruption policy, as well as the economic development programs.

“It’s a great honor to be appointed as Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia and have an opportunity to bring contribution to the development of the Armenia-EU relations. The EU reaffirms its constant support to your democratic reforms agenda aimed at Armenia’s development based on the rule of law and our common values”, the EU Ambassador said, adding that she is impressed with the ongoing changes taking place in different spheres in Armenia. She reaffirmed that the EU will continue supporting Armenia in strengthening the democracy in the spheres mentioned by the PM, as well as enriching the Armenia-EU partnership with new mutually beneficial programs and initiatives.

The Armenian PM and the EU Delegation chief also discussed a number of issues relating to the bilateral agenda, in particular the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Eastern partnership, the implementation of new joint projects, etc.

Both highlighted the importance of actions aimed at launching visa liberalization talks.

The sides highlighted getting acquainted with the new leadership of the EU structures.

The meeting participants also exchanged views on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Armenian PM highlighted the EU’s balanced position on the NK conflict settlement process. In her turn the Ambassador said the EU supports the negotiation process of the conflict and the formation of atmosphere of dialogue directed for the peaceful settlement.
