The 4th Armenia International Music Festival features celebrated artists

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS/Press Release - Armenian State Symphony Orchestra/. The Armenia International Music Festival kicked off on September 24 in Yerevan. Music lovers had the opportunity to listen to Ernest Chausson’s Poème for Violin and Orchestra, Alexey Shor’s Violin Concerto “Phantasms” and Piano Concerto “Travel Notebook.”

The first recipient of the Robert Levin Award from Harvard University, the first prize winner of the 2019 Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition, the top prize winner of the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition and the youngest ever prize winner of the Menuhin Competition, Stella Chen, and the famous pianist Denis Kozhukhin performed with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra. Kozhukhin has established himself as one of the greatest pianists of his generation winning the First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2010 at the age of 23.

The opening concert was led by the Grammy-nominated cellist and conductor Dmitry Yablonsky. His career has taken him to some of the most prestigious stages globally including the Carnegie Hall, La Scala, Tokyo Opera City Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall and Theatre Champs Elysees amongst others.

He has collaborated with many world-renowned artists such as Montserrat Caballe, Roberto Alagna and Olga Borodina and has conducted more than 50 orchestras worldwide.

Maestro Yablonsky greatly values the organisation of the Armenia International Music Festival conducted by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC).

“While everyone stepped aside, closed the borders and cancelled numerous concerts and festivals, Armenia made this festival possible…”, Yablonsky says.

Talking about his collaboration with the EUFSC, the Maestro discusses having met its President, Konstantin Ishkhanov, several years ago at a cello competition in Riga where Mr. Yablonsky was serving on the jury of a cello competition. “It was during our conversation with Mr. Ishkhanov that we came up with an idea of carrying out a festival in Israel. What they do is worthy of respect and appreciation: they organise large-scale music projects all over the world”.

Referring to his collaboration with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Yablonsky notes that it is not the first time he has conducted with the orchestra. “A wonderful atmosphere prevails in the orchestra. The conductor can usually sense the mood of the musicians in front of them and I think I can say with some confidence that we have marvellous people working with us here.”

The Armenia International Music Festival is being held in Yerevan from 24 to 28 September. The festival is organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, co-organised by the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex and the “Classical Armenia” Cultural NGO. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia.

During the festival four more concerts including three symphony concerts and a piano recital will be presented at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex and live-streamed to audiences around the world.
