Pashinyan: Turks are our enemies, but what should we do with that enmity?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey and Azerbaijan are the enemies of Armenia, but the question is what to do with that enmity, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the National Assembly on Wednesday, April 14.

The Prime Minister said he wonders whether that feud would remain manageable or would lead to uncontrollable consequences.

"To be honest, I don't understand this discourse. Yes, the Turks and the Azerbaijanis are our enemies. They see us as enemies too. The question is, what are we going to do with this hostility? The more we consider them enemies, the more they consider us enemies. The question is, to what extent are we going to escalate this enmity? Do they set themselves the goal of destroying us, or vice versa? I think not," Pashinyan told lawmakers.

According to him, that hostility must be dealt with very carefully because it is not a one-sided issue.

“Even on a mutual basis we cannot decide that we are no longer enemies, because we have historically been enemies,” he said.

Pashinyan's comments came after public and political circles in Armenia levelled accusations on the country's authorities, maintaining that reaching agreements on the unblocking of communications with Turkey and Azerbaijan is dangerous because those countries are trying to destroy Armenia.
