Armenia FM uncertain on concluding final version of peace treaty by yearend

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan says he is not sure that it will be possible to have a more or less final version of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan by the end of this year.

“The negotiations aimed at settling the establishment of peace or relations are at an active stage, they continue. A document with a new editing is being circulated. We have now received the new proposals of the Azerbaijani side, and we will present our new proposals. Unfortunately, the approaches of the sides on many issues are still far from each other, but the negotiations are also for this purpose so that we can find common grounds between these distant positions and have a joint result”, the FM said during the Q&A session in the Parliament.

He stated that the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan continue. There are unacceptable parts for the sides, and there are parts where the sides can take steps towards each other.

As of this moment, no meeting between the foreign ministers is planned by the end of the year.

“But I suppose that we will have one more meeting by the end of the year. In any case, we are ready for that meeting, we are active and constructive in these negotiations. I am not sure that we will manage to have a more or less final version of the treaty, although we have announced that initially, but it is an announcement of intention. Our intention, by and large, is in force. We are working to achieve peace and this comprehensive settlement as soon as possible”, the FM said.

He stated that even if it is not achieved by yearend, the negotiations will continue after that.
