Monitor: Turkey sends new batch of militants to Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey has sent a new batch of nearly 230 Syrian fighters to Azerbaijan to take part in the ongoing military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports. Meanwhile, at least 22 more fighters have fled the fierce battles in Azerbaijan and returned to Syria.

According to the monitor, the total number of Syrian mercenaries thrown into Karabakh battles has risen to at least 2,580, of whom 342 have returned to Syria after they had given up and forgone their payments.

On the other hand, the Observatory activists have documented the death of nine Syrian mercenaries in Nagorno-Karabakh battles in several hours on Tuesday, November 3, bringing the total number of fatalities among the Turkish-backed factions to at least 240, including 183 fighters whose bodies were brought to Syria while the rest of bodies remain in Azerbaijan.

SOHR revealed Turkey has been struggling to recruit more fighters to send to Karabakh, as a large part of the fighters refuse to fight alongside Azerbaijani forces due to the “sectarian” factor and the heavy human losses among the mercenaries sent to fight in Azerbaijan.

Also, some fighters sent to Azerbaijan were not aware that the Azerbaijani forces belong to the Shiite community, and discovering this fact prompted many fighters to return to Syria immediately after finding out about that.

In the war against Artsakh (Karabakh), Turkey is supporting Azerbaijan militarily, also by transferring terrorist mercenaries from Libya and Syria to fight against Karabakh. Armenia was the first to report on Turkey's deployment of thousands of Syrian fighters to Azerbaijan. International media publications followed suit, as did reactions from France, Russia, Iran and Syria. The Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army has already unveiled footage of the interrogation of one such terrorist captured on the front.

The Armenian side has also unveiled information about two terrorists captured during fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and terrorist mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
