Armenian-Italian high level negotiations take place in Rome

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who is in Italy on an official visit, held high level talks with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Rome on November 22.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the meeting took place at Palazzo Chigi, the official residence of the Italian PM. The Italian PM welcomed Nikol Pashinyan and the national anthems of Armenia and Italy were played.

Afterwards, the PMs of the two countries held a private conversation, during which Nikol Pashinyan and Giuseppe Conte discussed the current situation and the future of the Armenian-Italian relations.

During the expanded-format negotiations the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Italy referred to a broad scope of issues of bilateral cooperation. The Italian PM expressed support of his country to the democratic agenda of Armenia, emphasizing that Italy is ready for a maximally close cooperation with Armenia in the spheres of reforms.

Thanking for the readiness and the already visible involvement of Italy in the establishment of particularly the anti-corruption commission, the Armenian PM also emphasized the active participation of Italian companies in Armenia’s economic life. Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that such initiative will be continuous, and the Government of Armenia wants to foster the implementation of investment projects by all possible means.

The Armenian PM expressed satisfaction over the position of Italy on launching talks with the EU on visa liberalization and presented the improvement in migration situation in Armenia.

Nikol Pashinyan and Giuseppe Conte also expressed satisfaction over the Armenian-Italian cooperation in culture and education, recorded the effectiveness of the students exchange program between the two countries.

The Prime Ministers of the two countries paid special attention to international security issues, including the situation in Syria. Nikol Pashinyan presented Armenia’s humanitarian activities in Syria. The sides also referred to other regional security issues, exchanged views on Iran-EU, Armenia-Iran relations and Nagono Karabakh conflict settlement. The Prime Ministers of the two countries highlighted the cooperation in UN Human Rights Council.

PM Pashinyan invited Italian PM Giuseppe Conte to pay an official visit to Armenia.
