UN fully supports reform agenda in Armenia – Pashinyan meets with António Guterres

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. In the sidelines of the working visit to New York Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with UN Secretary General António Guterres.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, following the ceremonial hand shaking and making a note in the book of guests of the UN, the meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and António Guterres took place.

The UN Secretary General welcomed the Prime Minister of Armenia at the UN headquarters and his participation in the works of the 74th meeting of the UN General Assembly. António Guterres noted that the UN follows the developments in Armenia, salutes the democratic processes and is ready to continue supporting Armenia and its people for recording progress.

The Armenian PM noted that he is glad for the opportunity to meet with the UN Secretary General and thanked the UN Office in Armenia for supporting the parliamentary elections in Armenia held last year. Pashinyan emphasized that the support of the UN had its contribution to holding the most democratic elections in Armenia during the last 2 decades, which were assessed as free and fair by the international community and observers. According to the PM, the Government of Armenia is committed to bring into life a huge package of reforms, aimed at the protection of human rights, ensuring rule of law, reforms in judicial sphere, fight against corruption, ensuring equal opportunities. The PM added that Armenia highlights the support of its international partner organizations, including the UN, for speedy and successful implementation of the reforms.

The UN Secretary General welcomed the commitment of the Armenian Government to carry out reforms and emphasized that the UN expresses its full support to the reform agenda of Armenia. PM Pashinyan expressed satisfaction for the cooperation with the UN Office in Armenia.

The Armenian PM and the UN Secretary General exchanged views on Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, global challenges and other regional and international issues.
