Armenian PM receives PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Yuliya Lovochkina and Andrej Šircelj, Co-Secretary of the PACE Monitoring Committee Alexis Salanson and Head of the CoE Office in Yerevan Natalia Voutova, the Armenian PM’s Office told Armenpress.

The PM highlighted the PACE monitoring process in terms of strengthening democracy in Armenia and emphasized the necessity of close cooperation with the Council of Europe. Nikol Pashinyan highly valued the active participation of the PACE observer mission in the recent snap parliamentary elections in Armenia.

Thereafter, the PM touched upon the government’s priorities, in particular, the ongoing reforms aimed at fighting corruption, ensuring the independence of judiciary, rule of law, human rights, modernizing the administration system and improving the Electoral Code.

The co-repporteurs congratulated Pashinyan on holding high-level democratic elections and stated that they have fully reflected the will of the citizens of Armenia. They expressed confidence that the implementation of the Armenian government’s ambitious and comprehensive reforms agenda will give new impetus to the development and strengthening of democracy in the country.

The sides also attached importance to the mutual partnership and active dialogue at all directions. PM Pashinyan said he attaches specific importance to the cooperation with PACE and stated that he personally both as a journalist, politician and political prisoner, had had a productive cooperation with the PACE partners for many years.

During the meeting at the request of the co-rapporteurs the Armenian PM also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement and other issues of regional significance.
