Press service of the Azerbaijani president reports that during their telephonic conversation on Saturday, the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated that US President Donald Trump’s decision regarding Jerusalem was a mistake that can lead to perilous consequences in the Middle East, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.   

“President of Turkey Tayyip Erdoğan invited Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Istanbul to take part in the summit on Jerusalem,” the press service also said. “Ilham Aliyev accepted the invitation.”

The US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel is expected to be thoroughly discussed at the special summit of the leaders of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member countries that will convene in Istanbul on December 13, at the initiative of the Turkish president.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

But this decision has brought about worldwide reaction.
