YEREVAN. – The Armenian side’s actions toward suppressing Azerbaijani outposts at the Line of Contact can be considered absolutely correct.

Ambassador Ara Papyan, Armenia’s Modus Vivendi Center Director and political scientist, noted the above-said at a press conference on Thursday.

In his view, this had to be done. Otherwise, Azerbaijan would have continued violating the ceasefire.

“Azerbaijan deploys its artillery installations in the area of settlements,” Papyan stressed. “Thus, this country violates numerous international laws.”

The analyst noted that with such policy, the Azerbaijani leadership uses its population as a human shield, whereas the Armenian side cannot do anything about the fact that civilians are dying, since the adversary is carrying out the aggression.

“We [the Armenian side] have never hit the civilian population, but we can’t not restrain Azerbaijan,” Ara Papyan added. “If needed, the Armenian side should continue making the corresponding counter strikes to Azerbaijan.”

On Tuesday evening, the Azerbaijani armed forces, which are located nearby Alkhanlu village, fired shells on the positions of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Defense Army. A 52-year-old Azerbaijani woman and a 2-year-old girl died in the ensuing exchange of fire.
