Armenian peacekeepers withdrawing from Kazakhstan

PanARMENIAN.Net - CSTO peacekeeping forces of Armenia, Belarus, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have begun the withdrawal from Kazakhstan, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday, January 13.

"Formations from the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO of the republics of Armenia, Belarus, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, performing tasks for the protection of socially significant objects in the Republic of Kazakhstan, have begun loading standard equipment and personnel into the aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces to return home," the Russian side said in a statement.

Almost immediately after Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked for help amid unrest in his country, the CSTO decided to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in Kazakhstan, with Armenia sending 100 troops to Kazakhstan as part of the contingent.
