Cenbank claims World Bank miscalculated Armenia rating in Doing Business report, works to fix error

At today’s Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan talked about Armenia’s ranking in the 2020 Doing Business report, clarifying that certain changes in World Bank’s assessment methodology contributed to the drop in the general position.

The 2020 report places Armenia 47th among 190 countries, while last year it was 41st.

The minister noted that Armenia recorded progress in the ease of doing business score and went up to 74.5.

But the PM noted that there is a drop in the general rating.

Khachatryan said the drop isn’t a reduction in the ranking but a positional decrease. Khachatryan argues that the change is associated with a new methodology used by the World Bank related to the stock market and participating companies.
