Armenia, Iran to reshape bilateral agenda after Rouhani’s visit – expert


Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming visit to Armenia is expected to mark new turning points in the two countries’ relations, according to Vardan Voskanyan, an Armenian expert in Iranian studies.


Speaking to Tert.am, Voskanyan said he expects the two countries to reshape their agenda to outline new plans and activities. “They will discuss the projects which are now in progress or have already been implemented, as well as consider the problems in the Armenia-Iran relations. Certainly, high-level meetings as that will outline also new programs and guidelines, and an agenda of new activities,” he said, not ruling out the possibility of new proposals.


Rouhani’s trip is going to be the third visit by an Iranian leader to Armenia. The former president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, visited the country in 2007 and 2011. The Fars News Agency reported earlier that the Rouhani is scheduled to start the trip after November 20.


Voskanyan noted that Armenia and Iran haven’t revised the joint programs or relations since the lifting of the nuclear sanctions back in 2015.
