The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia has developed and submitted for public discussion the decision "On a temporary ban on the import of goods of Turkish origin into the Republic of Armenia", which will come into force on December 31, 2020. What is the reaction of local businesses? We have talked on this with Edgar Avetisyan, General Director of PROFAL, a manufacturer of aluminum doors, windows and glass constructions.
- What is your attitude to the RA government's decree banning the import of Turkish-made goods?
- The adoption of this law, of course, is strategically important for our country. In a sense, it is slightly belated, but nevertheless, more than of current interest. Until the decision comes into force, it's a good time to repurpose and search for alternatives - new suppliers and partners. There is no such Turkish product that cannot be found in Armenia from Armenian producers or among products imported from other markets. There is no such raw material that cannot be purchased from suppliers from other countries.
Refusal from Turkish products should be carried out not only by force of law, but also be a conscious decision of each of us: as consumers, we must rethink our approach not only in practice, but also on an emotional level.
- In this case, does the Armenian manufacturer have enough potential to provide the market after the ban on the import of Turkish-made goods?
- Last year, goods of Turkish origin in the amount of $ 268.1 million were imported from Turkey to Armenia, of which $ 21.6 million are non-precious metals and products made from them. Now is the time to take the appropriate steps to redefine the partnership.
