
The opposition Armenia faction in the parliament on Saturday issued a statement, calling for the formation of a new national government to handle the security challenges facing the country. The full text of the statement is provided below.
"Dear compatriots, the situation on the Vorotan-Shurnukh section of the Goris-Kapan highway remains tense. Taking advantage of the connivance and criminal negligence of the Armenian authorities, Azerbaijan has set up police and customs checkpoints there.
Serious problems have arisen in terms of the use of the strategically important Iran-Armenia interstate road. Azerbaijanis collect customs duties from trucks coming from Iran. Two Iranian drivers have been detained, with their fate remaining unknown. Citizens of the Republic of Armenia, including minors, travelling on this road are subjected to psychological pressure.
Official Yerevan considers the actions of Azerbaijanis legal, referring to the maps of Soviet Azerbaijan, and considers the mentioned Goris-Kapan road section as Azerbaijani. Such an anti-state conduct of the Armenian authorities makes Baku even more impudent and pushes Azerbaijanis to new unbridled actions.
