UWC Dilijan will launch its ‘Exito’ exhibition featuring work by the visual arts class of 2016-2018 at the Dilijan Art Gallery on Sunday, March 18 at 4pm. The exhibition will showcase inspired and diverse work by 17 students from 13 countries, which reveals their passion for the arts and progress made since entering the college two years ago. It is the second year running that the International Baccalaureate exam will transform into a public event for the wider community in Dilijan, Armenia.
Denise Davidson, Head of UWC Dilijan, explains, “When students enter the college and choose visual arts, many of them have never had brushes in their hands before or thought that they could become artists. The experiential learning method advocated by our school is all about allowing students to test themselves and try something new that they have never considered before. Our aim is for them to learn new techniques and reveal hidden talents and potential. It is very important for them to participate in a real exhibition and be exposed to the critical judgement of the public. After two years of studying and working hard many of them enter the best art colleges in the world and decide to continue with their art for a lifetime.”
Students will present their works created using different media: oil and acrylics, ceramics and photography, mixed media and installations. Many of the students expose social problems and conflicts, contradictions and existential values in their art. The name of the exhibition, ‘Exito’, conveys both the Spanish word ‘success’ and the English word ‘exit’, and was chosen by the students to highlight a successful finale to their two-year art course.
